This painting is inspired by the terrain in my immediate neighbourhood. I’ve wanted to paint this particular scene for a long time. If I had to try to put into words why this scene in particular inspired me to paint it, I’m thinking it’s partly the range in the pallette and also the location. The waves regularly crash in hard on this shore and I guess that has created this shoreline that looks the way it does. It has withstood time. It’s rough. It’s rugged. It’s so represents the south west coast where I live. The salty air and not so distant bell buoy call to me.
