This painting is the latest in my series, Glimpses of Light. This piece like a couple of the others has been painted on a square canvas. The other two paintings are considerably smaller, at 12 x 12" each. Those two smaller pieces have been chosen by a jury to participate in the South Delta Artist's Guild, Oil & Water Show, South Delta, BC, Canada, 6 June - 23 June, 2024.
All the pieces in this collection are inspired by the abundant local flora and fauna where I live. In other words the wilds of nature is my muse. I like to say that I am wrapped in the forest and surrounded by the churning, Salish Sea.
Through my art I look to celebrate the beautiful nature that I live in, with those who would value similar environments.

Spring sunlight refractions, seashore, wildflowers, sea breezes…
Happily, this painting has been chosen by a jury to participate in the Oil & Water Art Show, South Delta Artist's Guild, Gallery 1710, South Delta, BC, Canada, June 6 - 23.
Nature is my muse. She puts on a wonderful show. The inspiration I take back with me to my log house studio, where I recreate the abundant flora and fauna I am surrounded by on the Southern Gulf Island where I live. Hopefully, the viewer can perceive the light that is imbued in the paintings in this collection, Glimpses of Light. The symbolism is not coincidental, for those who are interested in those sorts of things. I hope to share with those kindred spirits who value the simpler things in life some of what inspires me: fresh air, sea breezes, flowers, trees, sunlight.

The latest paintings in this collection will not be available for sale yet. They are going to be participating in some competitions first, with any luck. Stay tuned for updates and subscribe to my newsletter to find out upcoming sales before the general public is given access.

I'm excited to say that his painting was one of two chosen by a jury to participate in Gallery 1710's, Oil & Water Art Show / Sale, South Delta Artist's Guild, BC, Canada, June 6-23, 2024.
The subject of this painting is a very local one for me, as it is where I live. The setting for this painting is Galiano Island, BC, where this artist is surrounded by lush, mossy, green forests, wildflowers, deer, owls, eagles, whales, seals, herons, otters, frogs... a real west coast cornucopia of the best of this part of BC.
I am fortunate to get to experience the wild nature all year round; the changes in the seasons that dresses the sea / landscape in everchanging waves.
My paintings are a way for my to celebrate all that inspires me and share it with those like minded people who also value the simpler things in life.

A local scene that highlights wild (Camus) flowers in the foreground with a hint of Bellhouse Provincial Park in the background, for those who might recognize it.

I love a good misty scene literally and symbolically. Everything I want to know is not necessarily crystal clear. There’s room for interpretation. In the ambiguity are potential points of interest for me. Diffusion, refractions, light skipping off the of surfaces in unusual ways.
The mist is the place where the light plays.
I take the natural inspiration back to the log house studio with the intent to recreate some of what it is I see & share that with a tribe that values fresh air, trees, sunshine, sea breezes...

First painting of this season, building on the series started last season, Glimpses of Light.
I am inspired by where I live on Galiano Island, BC. The flora and fauna, the soft, mossy, forest floors, the salty air, the seashells washed up on the sandy shore.
On my best days, I find a quietness here that leaves room for all kinds of subtleties. The layers of sights, sounds and smells that are interwoven into my psyche now and are food that feeds my artistic inspiration.
My canvases are imbued with the paint that seeks to reveal all the simpler things that I have a hard time putting into words. I hope my art speaks to a tribe of people who may value similar, simple things. I create art knowing that those of you who can see the light, the lush nature and hear the birds singing are the ones who will connect with that which is so special about the wildness of this nature I have come to know and love.

Part of the Gimpses of Light collection. This painting and one other (Where the Garden Meets the Sky) were chosen by a jury to participate in the OIl and Water Show at Gallery 1710, South Delta, BC, Canada.
Mossy, green forests and salty ocean breezes are part of the ambience that lets me know I'm home.

This part of my new series, Glimpses of Light

Active Pass Sunset, turbulent skies and water. The high contrast of bright light and dark skies…

I walk to this location often. It is an area full of sea life from the shore birds, to the seals and sea lions. The air is salty and the breeze is refreshing.
Available at Now & Zen, Galiano Island, BC.
